Bruning Award

The Herbert and Emily '38 Lucas Bruning Award was established to honor Herb and Emily on their 50th wedding anniversary. Created in 1990, the Award reflected the Brunings interest in education by encouraging the professional development of HCC faculty. One $1,000 award will be given annually.

summary of the Bruning Award:

• The purpose of the Bruning Award is to support HCC faculty development.
• The Award will be presented at commencement.
• The Award will be made based on proposals from HCC faculty members.
• The HCC Faculty Development Awards Online Application must be submitted by April 25, 2025.
• At minimum, proposals should include your name, description and nature of your proposed development activity, cost estimates, and the date submitted. Proposals can address any aspect of your profession.
• The financial portion of the Awards are made to fully fund or partially fund your proposal. The amount awarded is determined by the proposal and the earnings on the investment of the Funds. 
• The selection committee is composed of the Executive Director of the HCC Foundation, the VP for Academic Affairs, the VP for Technical Education, and the previous year's Bruning Award recipient. 
• If none of the proposals received are considered worthy of the Award, the Award will not be made that year.
• A recipient is not eligible to receive the Award two years in a row.
